Washington considers freedom of navigation in the area a “pillar of American and global prosperity.”\n\nThe US offensive is part of a large-scale military campaign, launched alongside Israel, which in just 48 hours has hit more than 1,250 targets in Iranian territory.\n\nAccording to CENTCOM itself, the list of targets includes command and control centers, ballistic missile bases, Iranian Navy ships and submarines, and anti-ship missile sites.\n\nThe operation against the Iranian fleet is added to the massive bombings carried out by Israel in Tehran and other cities, where the headquarters of the Ministry of Intelligence, bases of the Revolutionary Guard and command centers responsible for internal repression were attacked.\n\nThe White House justified the military escalation in Tehran by recalling decades of aggression by the Iranian regime against American citizens and forces. In an official statement, the Donald Trump administration detailed a long list of attacks, kidnappings, and assassinations attributed to Iran and its allies since 1979, including attacks against military bases, embassies, and civilians in different countries.\n\nCENTCOM detailed that B-2 bombers with 2,000-pound artillery have been employed to destroy Iranian ballistic missile facilities, and that Iranian warships \u2014 including a Jamaran-class corvette \u2014 have been sunk in the Gulf of Oman.\n\n“We are protecting American lives and defending vital interests. This time, the threat will not go unpunished or unanswered,” the president affirmed.\n\n\n
