The Palace of Fine Arts closed this Tuesday with resounding success the performances of “Here in the shadow, Salomé”, a powerful production of the Dominican Traveling Theater that marked the official opening of Theater Month with three memorable days, filled with sensitivity, reflection and support from the public.

Inspired by the life and legacy of Salomé Ureña, the staging was presented within the framework of the 175th anniversary of her birth (October 21, 1850), proposing a contemporary scenic reading that transcends biography to become a sensory experience about memory, body, education, and homeland.

Following its premiere on Sunday, March 1st, before a completely full house, the performances continued on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd, when the Máximo Avilés Blonda Hall received around a thousand students from public and private educational centers, many with artistic training, who experienced firsthand a theatrical experience also conceived as a formative act and a living contact with the Dominican cultural heritage.

Far from a conventional historical narrative, “Here in the Shadow, Salomé” constructs a ritual space where word, movement, and music dialogue on stage. Microphones, silences, physical actions, and live music are integrated as dramaturgical resources that amplify both the intimate dimension and the collective voice of a woman who continues to flourish in the national consciousness.

The production featured the artistic direction of Indiana Brito, co-direction by Jozze Sánchez and dramaturgy by Robelitza Pérez, and was masterfully performed by Paloma Palacios, Madeline Abreu, Robelitza Pérez and Stuart Ortiz, along with the special participation of the girls Amelia and Ofelia Pérez.
