With the change, the authorities must issue the alert in a shorter period and repeat it according to the guidelines of the Emergency Alert System and the Federal Communications Commission.\n\nThe Silver Alert is an emergency protocol activated to assist in the search and location of missing persons, especially senior adults or individuals with cognitive conditions such as dementia or Alzheimer’s. When issued, the authorities disseminate information about the missing person through media, alert systems, and digital platforms to quickly mobilize the citizenry and increase the chances of finding the person safely.\n\n\n

Signs 17 measures<\/strong>
The measure is part of a package of 17 legislative initiatives signed by the governor, which include 10 new laws and seven joint resolutions aimed at streamlining government services, strengthening emergency response, protecting minors, and carrying out various infrastructure designations and studies on the Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the laws signed is also an initiative that extends to 16 years the term of appointment of property registrars, prosecutors and prosecutors, with the aim of guaranteeing greater stability and independence in the justice system. According to the statement, these positions require accumulated experience and continuity in the attention of complex cases, so extending the term of appointment seeks to strengthen the functioning of the registry and judicial system.<\/p>\n\n\nAnother measure amends the Vehicle and Traffic Law to allow traffic tickets to be notified through the mobile application of the Department of Transportation and Public Works, such as CESCO Digital or other authorized electronic systems. The governor maintained that the change seeks to modernize government processes and offer citizens more technological tools to verify their infractions.\n\nAdditionally, legislation was signed to increase penalties related to illegal casinos, as well as another measure that requires notification to the Veteran’s Attorney’s Office when eviction proceedings are initiated against veterans, so that this entity can provide assistance.\n\nIn the field of road safety, the governor also signed into law an amendment clarifying that the suspension of a driver’s license for running a red light on three occasions will only apply to violations committed within the validity period of the license, with the purpose of eliminating ambiguities in the application of the law.\n\nOther legislation modifies the Municipal Code to allow that, when a state of emergency is declared, municipalities can start work to restore electricity or water services with 24 hours’ notice to the corresponding public corporations, instead of the five days previously required, which seeks to speed up the response after emergency events.\n\nA measure was also approved to exempt certain officials of the Fire Department Bureau from the provisions of the Uniform Official Vehicles Act, considering the operational responsibilities of those positions.\n\nIn public health matters, the governor signed another law that sanctions those who sell or attempt to sell cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, or other related products to minors under 21 years of age, as well as those who incite or assist in carrying out such behaviors.\n\nThe legislative package also includes the designation of November 14 as “Legislator Student Day” in Puerto Rico, an initiative promoted by students and teachers from the North Point Military Academy school in Vega Baja to encourage civic education and the participation of young people in legislative processes.\n\nThe joint resolutions signed cover measures such as the evaluation to transfer the structure of the former state barracks in its urban area to the municipality of Cabo Rojo, order traffic studies in Guaynabo, enable digital platforms to apply discounts on traffic fines suspended during judicial reviews, and reallocate funds for improvements to the Lomas Verdes municipal cemetery in Bayam\u00f3n.\n\nIn addition, public infrastructure designations were approved, including naming the Minillas Tunnel in San Juan in honor of former Governor Carlos Romero Barcel\u00f3 and naming a section of PR-199 Avenue as Carlos Antonio Romero Barcel\u00f3, as well as designating PR-8 road with the name of former legislator Alba Iris \u201cAlbita\u201d Rivera Ram\u00edrez.\n\nSource: EL VOCERO<\/strong><\/a>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
