Miami (USA).-<\/strong> U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio<\/strong> is on the witness list for the trial scheduled for this month against former congressman David Rivera, who was accused of trying to influence the U.S. Government to ease sanctions against Nicolas Maduro’s Chavista regime during the first term of Donald Trump (2017-2021).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\nRivera faces charges in a Miami court of “acting as an unregistered agent of a Venezuelan citizen”<\/strong> and allegedly receiving more than five million dollars for his efforts to pressure U.S. Government officials.\n\n\n

You may be interested in:<\/strong> http:\/\/Marco Rubio says Israel’s attack on Qatar "will not change" US support<\/a><\/p>\n\n\nThe list, which includes Rubio and 29 other people who “may be called as witnesses by the Government in the trial”, was presented this Monday by the Southern District Attorney’s Office of Florida, according to a court document accessed by EFE.\n\nIt also includes three other State Department officials, including two who are already retired, who will eventually testify at the trial against Rivera and Esther Nuhfer, which will begin on March 16 with jury selection.\n\nBoth face criminal charges for conspiracy to commit a crime against the United States, failure to register as a foreign agent, and conspiracy to commit money laundering, among others related to their consulting activities.\n\nAs young politicians from Florida and of Cuban origin, Rubio and Rivera, a former state congressman, shared an apartment in Tallahassee, the seat of the legislature, in the nineties.\n\nThe Secretary of State, who was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2000 to 2008, before running for Congress in Washington, has been a defender of freedom in Cuba and Venezuela, denouncing the Castro and Maduro regimes.\n\nRivera, who has pleaded not guilty, is accused of being the center of a covert scheme to persuade President Trump’s first administration to ease sanctions against the Maduro regime, who was captured on January 3 by the Republican government and faces drug trafficking charges in New York.\n\nAlso mentioned in the process was the current White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles, among other names linked to politics and the federal administration.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
