Washington.- <\/strong>United States President Donald Trump stated this Monday that he plans to delay by approximately one month the trip to China that he had planned to make at the end of March to meet with his counterpart, Xi Jinping, due to the war with Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\u201cBecause of the war, I want to be here. I feel like I have to be here. So we have requested to postpone it for a month or so, and I look forward to being with them. We have a very good relationship,\u201d the president explained to the press.\n\nWhite House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt had indicated this Monday that there was a possibility that Trump’s trip to Beijing, scheduled between March 31 and April 3, would be delayed because the president is focused on the offensive in Iran.\n\nTrump suggested over the weekend in an interview with the Financial Times that he might delay the visit to the Asian giant until he knows Beijing’s position on whether it is willing to help guarantee the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for the transit of oil that Iran blocked in retaliation for US attacks.\n\n\n

Preparations Amidst a Context of Uncertainty<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\nHowever, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who met this Monday with Chinese representatives in Paris to continue trade negotiations between the two superpowers, ruled out to the press that a possible delay in the trip was due to disagreements over the situation in Hormuz.\n\n“A postponement would not be a consequence of a request from the president not being met,” Bessent assured.\n\nChina on Monday asked to avoid an escalation around the Strait of Hormuz and to halt military actions in the area, without clarifying whether it will participate in the international coalition to escort ships that Trump has proposed.\n\nThe Chinese Foreign Ministry also assured that Beijing and Washington “maintain communication” regarding the “possible” trip of the US president, although the Chinese government has never confirmed the visit.\n\nIf it materializes, it would be Trump’s second visit to the Asian giant, after the one he made in 2017, during his first term.
