{"id":502362,"date":"2026-03-17T15:42:44","date_gmt":"2026-03-17T19:42:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/president-visits-arturo-fuente-tobacco-farm-in-monte-plata-to-replicate-its-production-model\/"},"modified":"2026-03-17T15:42:44","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T19:42:44","slug":"president-visits-arturo-fuente-tobacco-farm-in-monte-plata-to-replicate-its-production-model","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/uncategorized\/president-visits-arturo-fuente-tobacco-farm-in-monte-plata-to-replicate-its-production-model\/","title":{"rendered":"President visits Arturo Fuente tobacco farm in Monte Plata to replicate its production model"},"content":{"rendered":"President Luis Abinader visited this Tuesday the tobacco farm &#8220;La Milagrosa&#8221;, owned by the company Arturo Fuente, with the aim of replicating its modern and advanced technology in other parts of the country, in order to continue strengthening the production of wrapper, considered the finest leaf used in the elaboration of cigars.\n\nDuring the tour, the company&#8217;s CEO, Ciro Cascella, accompanied by the chairman of the board, Carlos Fuente, showed the president the technological advances, the investment, and the economic impact of this key project for the strengthening of premium tobacco production in the country.\n\nArturo Fuente&#8217;s CEO also valued the government&#8217;s support for the tobacco sector, noting that public policies have been decisive for its growth. &#8220;More than support, it has been the absence of obstacles that has allowed projects like this to advance and consolidate,&#8221; he said.\n\nCascella explained that the farm covers about a thousand plots of land and represents an investment of over RD$350 million pesos, consolidating itself as one of the most innovative initiatives in the Dominican tobacco sector thanks to the irrefutable quality, both in flavor and manufacturing, of its products.\n\nFurthermore, he highlighted that the project is a continuation of the vision initiated over 30 years ago by the Fuente family, pioneers in the cultivation of tobacco wrapper in the country.\n\nHe also detailed that &#8220;La Milagrosa&#8221; has state-of-the-art technology, including advanced irrigation systems that allow for precise watering and fertilization, as well as the use of solar panels that contribute to the sustainability of the production process. In addition, it has six curing ranches with a capacity for 50 thousand pounds each.\n\nIn the social sphere, the executive highlighted that the farm generates around 400 direct jobs in this community, contributing significantly to the economic dynamism of the area.\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tobacco industry boosts female employment in free trade zones<\/p>\n\n\nFrom his side, the director of the Tobacco Institute of the Dominican Republic (INTABACO), Iv\u00e1n Hern\u00e1ndez,\n\nHe highlighted that tobacco continues to be the main agricultural export product of the Dominican Republic, generating approximately 1.385 billion dollars in foreign currency, positioning the country as a world leader in the sector.\n\nHern\u00e1ndez indicated that the tobacco industry generates nearly 40,000 direct jobs in free zones, consolidating itself as one of the fundamental pillars for economic dynamization and social development of the country. He highlighted that 62% of these jobs are held by women, which demonstrates the sector&#8217;s leading role in female labor inclusion and in promoting gender equality in this sector.\n\nHighlights social transformation driven by the foundation in a tobacco community\n\nCarlos Fuente, chairman of the board, stated that a tobacco planting project initiated in 1991 gave rise to a foundation that has transformed a community marked by poverty into a model of development. In that sense, he explained that the lack of education and child labor motivated him to create a small school, which over time grew to become a foundation that includes a health center, preschool, primary school, technical high school, training in nursing and computing, as well as a basketball court and an art academy.\n\nThe Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Pa\u00edno Henr\u00edquez, was present; Messrs.
