<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\nSanto Domingo<\/strong>.- The Dominican Government, through the Ministry of the Presidency, made the official presentation of the project for the development of the country’s first commercial spaceport<\/strong>, which will have as its proposed location the municipality of Oviedo, in the province of Pedernales.\n\nThe project developed by the aerospace company Launch On Demand (LOD) Holdings marks a decisive step in the country’s insertion into the space economy global<\/a>, a rapidly expanding sector driven by the growing demand for satellite launch services and orbital operations.\n\nLOD Holdings, based in Florida, is a firm specializing in launch licensing, regulatory support, and space infrastructure execution. The company has a leadership team with experience in operations at the Kennedy Space Center, as well as at leading industry companies such as SpaceX and Blue Origin.\n\n\n

“The future of space will depend on who dares to build it today; the Dominican Republic takes that decisive step, leading with vision, creating opportunities for its talent and showing young people and children that dreaming of space is indeed possible,” highlighted LOD’s executive director, Burton Catledge, during his presentation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe project contemplates the construction of a commercial spaceport<\/strong> accompanied by an integrated energy hub<\/strong>, with an estimated capacity of 200 megawatts, oriented both to aerospace operations<\/strong> and to the strengthening of the national electricity grid<\/strong>. Likewise, the development of logistical, hydraulic and technological infrastructure<\/strong> is planned, including a desalination plant<\/strong> and advanced systems for acoustic mitigation<\/strong> during launches.\n\n\n

This approach seeks to facilitate foreign investment and promote the participation of the Dominican Republic in strategic agreements such as Cafta-DR.<\/strong>\n\nThe financial model will be based on private investment, strategic alliances<\/strong> and international mechanisms for financing<\/strong> infrastructure, with an estimated investment of more than 600 million dollars<\/strong>, aimed at ensuring the sustainability and viability<\/strong> of the project in the long term.\n\nIn this context, LOD Holdings has initiated conversations with global companies in key areas<\/strong> such as logistics, industrial gas supply, and launch services.\n\nThe initiative is framed within the vision of President Luis Abinader<\/strong> to diversify the economy, strengthen technological sovereignty, and position the country as a relevant player in high value-added sectors<\/strong>.
