When answering questions from journalists covering the process, court prosecutor Mirna Ortiz, head of the Specialized Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), maintained that the defendants have not been able to counter the strength of the evidence held by the Public Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cWe are in the final phase of this process. If everything goes as the court has established, next Wednesday we should be concluding all parts and the judge retiring to her considerations to produce the decision of this process\u201d, detailed Ortiz, who trusted that the judges would issue an order to open the trial that avoids impunity in the case.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n


The litigation team that represented the Public Ministry on Friday was headed by Deputy Attorney Wilson Camacho, head of the General Directorate of Prosecution; court prosecutor Mirna Ortiz, and prosecutors Melbin Romero, Rosa Ysabel, Jhensy V\u00edctor and Rosa Alba Garc\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


\u201cToday, the defenses were counter-arguing; however, the defenses are still evading the issue, wanting to deny aspects that are clear and evident; even contradicting themselves<\/a>, because they really and effectively haven’t been able to counter the strength of the evidence that the Public Ministry has\u201d, the head of Pepca underlined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that this will evidently and unequivocally lead to a trial opening order, “which is the only possible solution in this process so that we can then be seen in court where the evidence will speak for itself<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n\n\n


Judge Altagracia Ram\u00edrez set the next hearing for Wednesday, March 25, at 9:00 a.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\nAfter presenting its rebuttal conclusions to the defense’s arguments last Friday, the Public Ministry requested the court that all defendants be sent to trial for defrauding the Dominican State of more than RD$19 billion pesos from taxpayers.\n\n


The accused, who were arrested by the Public Ministry with the launch of Operation Calamar, were part of a structure that diverted the indicated millionaire sum through irregular payments for expropriations of land declared of public utility and bribes used to finance the 2020 electoral campaign.<\/p>\n\n
In addition to the former ministers of Finance, Public Works and administrative of the Presidency, Donald Guerrero Ortiz, Gonzalo Castillo and Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n Peralta, among those charged in the administrative corruption case also appear: Daniel Omar Caama\u00f1o, former Comptroller General of the Republic; Luis Miguel Piccirillo, former director of the State Sugar Council (CEA), and Claudio Silver Pe\u00f1a, former director of National Cadastre.
