Punta Cana. \u2014<\/strong> The president of the La Romana-Bayahibe Hotels Association, Andr\u00e9s Fern\u00e1ndez, highlighted as a agreement<\/a> \u201chistoric\u201d the decision of the cruise line MSC Cruises, of Italian origin and based in Switzerland, to choose the Dominican Republic and specifically La Romana as a home port to operate a ship in the Caribbean throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\nThese statements were offered within the framework of the inauguration this Wednesday of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) 2026 fair, organized by the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores), consolidated as the main tourism marketing stage in the Caribbean and a strategic platform for the strengthening of the sector in the country.\n\nFern\u00e1ndez explained that the immediate challenge is to consolidate this operation over time, while working to attract other cruise lines that strengthen the country’s presence in this tourism segment. In his opinion, this step positions La Romana as a strategic point within the Caribbean routes.\n\nThe business leader stated that the La Romana-Bayahibe tourist hub is experiencing a boom, with high levels of hotel occupancy, a consolidated offer, and beaches that remain clean throughout the year. In that context, he also highlighted the geographical advantage of the area, as well as the natural protection that Saona Island provides against phenomena that are currently impacting other destinations in the region.\n\n\n
