Kuala Lumpur.-<\/strong> The Malaysian company Karex<\/strong>, the world’s largest condom producer<\/strong>, announced this Thursday an increase of up to 30% in the price of these condoms due to the war in Iran and trade disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which has increased its production costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In statements to EFE, the CEO of Karex, Goh Miah Kiat<\/strong>, confirmed that the company “has been adjusting prices with most of its clients, implementing increases of up to 30%”<\/strong> on condoms, personal lubricants, probe covers and catheters.<\/h2>\n\n\n“This cost transfer to the customer is inevitable due to the ongoing instability in the supply of raw materials, logistical disruptions, and rising production costs,” he explained.\n\nIn this sense, he said that raw materials such as nitrile latex, a derivative of petroleum, have increased in price by more than 100% in recent weeks due to disruptions in Hormuz, through which a large part of world trade transits, including about a third of the oil that moves by sea.\n\nOther supplies such as silicone oil<\/strong> and the aluminum foil container increased in price by between 20 and 30% in recent days,<\/strong> while some materials used for intimate lubricants are now 120% more expensive than before the war.\n\n“We continue to experience longer delivery times from suppliers, greater price volatility and higher freight costs,” continued the executive, who revealed that the company has increased preventive storage of raw materials to ensure the continuity of production.\n\n\n
