It is imperative that all those responsible for this crime be identified and punished,” the organization stated.\n\nHe also expressed his solidarity with the Judicial Branch “and all those who work tirelessly for a just and impartial justice system” and affirmed his “commitment to continue accompanying” the Bolivian State in the “strengthening of its institutions, the promotion of peace and security” and the “protection of human rights”.\n\nWe recommend reading:\n\nOn Thursday night, Claure was gunned down by an unknown person in the eastern city of Santa Cruz, where he arrived along with other judges and officials of the Judiciary to attend an event of that body, whose headquarters are in Sucre, the constitutional capital of Bolivia.\n\n\n

The crime caused shock and reactions of outrage<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\nAccording to preliminary investigations, the magistrate was returning to his accommodation after attending a dinner, in a shared taxi with a judicial official whom he first accompanied to her home.\n\nAs the official was about to pay for the transportation service, they were intercepted by two men on a motorcycle, one of whom got off and riddled Claure with bullets, who was in the front seat of the taxi, explained the departmental commander of the Santa Cruz Police, Colonel David G\u00f3mez.\n\nOne of the hypotheses being considered by the Police is that the motive for the crime is “a land dispute”, because Claure “would have issued some type of resolution regarding the possession or use of some lands” in eastern Bolivia, indicated the police chief.\n\nFollowing this event, the Police activated “security capsules” to protect another 13 senior magistrates who were also in Santa Cruz, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office formed a commission to investigate the matter.\n\nClaure was a lawyer specializing in agrarian issues and was elected magistrate of the TA in the judicial elections held in 2024.\n\nHis body was transferred this day to Cochabamba, his native region in the center of the country, where he will be buried.\n\nThe crime caused shock and reactions of outrage, especially in the Judiciary, whose high courts asked the Prosecutor’s Office to act with “celerity” to identify the perpetrators.\n\nIn a statement to the media in Cochabamba, the Bolivian president, Rodrigo Paz, called the crime “horrifying” and expressed his solidarity with Claure’s family.\n\nPaz affirmed that he asked the security instances to provide “all guarantees to the judicial system” and urged to wait for the results of the investigation to avoid “speculations” about the case.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
