During those meetings, the authorities of the National Registry reported that, in the elections held in 2024, <strong>331,756 Salvadorans residing abroad exercised their right to vote<\/strong>, a figure that contrasts with the 3,808 participants in previous processes.\n\nThe presiding magistrate of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, <strong>Roxana Soriano<\/strong>, stated that the creation of an electoral district for the diaspora &#8220;will allow the diaspora to directly elect its representatives, as well as the new way of electing the magistrates of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal.&#8221;\n\nDuring the parliamentary debate, <strong>Ra\u00fal Chamagua<\/strong>, a Nuevas Ideas deputy, stated that the measure represents a fundamental step forward for democratic strengthening.\n\n\u201cWith what we are going to approve, we are saying not only to our Salvadoran citizens, but to the whole world, that El Salvador is a State that continues to bet on the strengthening of democracy. Because our Constitution says that every Salvadoran citizen must have the right to vote and to be represented.\u201d\n\nThe Political Commission of the Legislative Assembly discussed the constitutional reform this week.\n\nThe reform establishes that &#8220;in the territory of the Republic and abroad, the electoral districts determined by law will be established.
