The Ministry of Health reported this Tuesday that vaccination<\/strong> against measles<\/a><\/strong> will be mandatory<\/strong> for every Honduran citizen traveling to countries with active circulation of the virus. The measure was adopted due to the regional epidemiological risk and the confirmation of imported cases in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>According to the official provision, the measure enters into force upon its signing and must be published in the official gazette La Gaceta<\/em>. From its implementation, every Honduran person traveling to countries with active circulation of the virus must present their official proof of vaccination against measles, whether by air, land, or sea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authorities indicated that this control will be verified at immigration and customs posts as part of the actions to reduce the risk of reintroduction of the virus into the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>In Honduras, the Ministry of Health acknowledged that measles vaccination coverage is below the 95% recommended by the World Health Organization<\/strong> (WHO), a threshold necessary to ensure herd immunity and prevent sustained outbreaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scope of the measure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

That level of coverage increases the country’s vulnerability to potential chains of transmission derived from imported cases, especially in high-mobility urban areas and border regions with a constant flow of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>The decision encompasses a context of regional alert due to outbreaks recorded in Guatemala, Mexico, the United States, and Canada<\/strong>, where health authorities reported an increase in cases due to the virus’s high transmission capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Health also established protocols to identify potential cases upon entry into the national territory. Any person presenting symptoms compatible with measles, mainly high fever and skin rash, must be evaluated immediately at a health facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The guidelines also establish that suspected cases must remain in preventive isolation<\/strong> until the disease is ruled out through laboratory tests, in coordination with the national epidemiological surveillance system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travelers who fail to comply with the mandatory vaccination requirement could face sanctions at immigration checkpoints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
