Santo Domingo.<\/strong>\u2013 The Cyber Police Area Directorate<\/a><\/strong> (DICAT), attached to the Central Investigation Directorate<\/strong> (DICRIM), reported the arrest of two individuals linked to separate cases of electronic fraud and illicit fund transfers, as part of the actions it is carrying out to combat technological crimes in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first case, Dariel Ram\u00edrez Castillo was arrested, who had been wanted by the authorities since 2022 for his alleged participation in a fraudulent money transfer operation. The arrest was carried out by agents from the C-3 Department and the Cyber Police Operations Department at kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway, in Santo Domingo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to investigations, Ram\u00edrez Castillo allegedly received an illicit transfer of RD$103,500 into a bank account, funds that were presumably obtained through unauthorized access to financial systems and subsequent irregular electronic movements. The investigation began following a complaint filed by a financial entity in May 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a second operation, agents arrested Crismel Estefany Acosta Tav\u00e1rez on George Washington Avenue, in the National District, in compliance with a judicial warrant related to an alleged electronic fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the police report, the detainee received deposits totaling RD$181,500 into a bank account linked to a scam executed through the Instagram and Telegram platforms. The victim was allegedly convinced to make investments under the promise of obtaining high returns through a supposed financial platform, without subsequently receiving the promised benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cyber Police indicated that both cases are part of the investigations it is developing to confront the types of fraud that use digital media and technological platforms to capture victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The detainees were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal purposes, while investigations related to both files continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
