{"id":509404,"date":"2026-06-03T17:56:20","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T21:56:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/minerd-celebrates-national-reading-festival-and-highlights-progress-in-early-literacy\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T17:56:20","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T21:56:20","slug":"minerd-celebrates-national-reading-festival-and-highlights-progress-in-early-literacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/dominican-news\/minerd-celebrates-national-reading-festival-and-highlights-progress-in-early-literacy\/","title":{"rendered":"MINERD celebrates National Reading Festival and highlights progress in early literacy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Santo Domingo.<\/strong>\u2013 The<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ministeriodeeducacion.gob.do\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic<\/a><\/strong> (MINERD) held this Wednesday the third edition of the <strong>National Reading Festival<\/strong>, an event that brought together students from the <strong>First Cycle of the Primary Level<\/strong> from the 18 educational regions of the country to showcase the progress achieved in the initial literacy process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The activity featured the participation of the Minister of Education, <strong>Luis Miguel De Camps<\/strong>, and the First Lady of the Republic, <strong>Raquel Arbaje<\/strong>, as well as educational authorities, teachers, parents, and students from different provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the event, Minister De Camps reaffirmed the Government&#8217;s commitment to strengthening early literacy, considering that reading is a fundamental tool for the comprehensive development of boys and girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>When one sees a child reading with enthusiasm and confidence, discovering the pleasure of understanding a story, one understands that educating does not consist only of transmitting content. Educating is also about awakening curiosity, developing imagination, and helping a child discover that they can understand the world for themselves<\/strong>\u201d, he\/she expressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>We recommend reading: <a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/nacionales\/minerdinformapagoscontratistas\/\">MINERD informs payments to contractors will follow the process established in Law 16-26<\/a><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The official highlighted that initial literacy constitutes one of the priorities of the national educational policy and pointed out that programs such as \u201cCon Base\u201d seek to support students in the development of reading, comprehension, and learning from the first school years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Likewise, he indicated that initiatives such as the National Reading Festival allow for highlighting the achievements reached by the students and strengthening the relationship between the school, the family, and the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For her part, First Lady Raquel Arbaje highlighted the importance of fostering reading from an early age and stated that it represents a tool for freedom and growth for children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-06-03-at-2.25.48-PM-1-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-669272\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, he urged parents and guardians to actively involve themselves in their children&#8217;s educational process, highlighting the fundamental role of the family in the comprehensive development of students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National Reading Festival is part of the strategies promoted by MINERD to strengthen literacy at the appropriate stage, promote reading comprehension, and develop communicative skills in the student population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-06-03-at-2.25.47-PM-1-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-669273\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the day, the children presented stories, poems, dramatizations, songs, and other artistic expressions related to reading, showcasing the knowledge and skills acquired in the classrooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Educational authorities highlighted that these types of activities contribute to sparking an interest in reading, stimulating creativity, and consolidating essential learning for the students&#8217; academic and personal development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-06-03-at-2.25.47-PM-2-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-669274\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Santo Domingo.\u2013 The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD) held this Wednesday the third edition of the National Reading Festival, an event that brought together students from the First Cycle of the Primary Level from the 18 educational regions of the country to showcase the progress achieved in the initial literacy process.
