Communicator Eduardo Mart\u00ednez<\/strong> called on the Dominican working class to remain vigilant regarding the review and eventual approval process of the Labor Code<\/strong> reform, warning about potential modifications that could affect workers’ acquired rights, including severance pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mart\u00ednez maintained that updating labor legislation is a necessity for the country, due to the changes experienced in the labor market over the last decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he expressed concern about some aspects that he claimed could generate negative impacts for employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAn attack on workers’ severance pay is being forged. That is why I alert the working class to remain vigilant during the review and approval of the new Labor Code,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mart\u00ednez acknowledged that the reform proposal incorporates elements he considers positive, including the regulation of remote work, a modality that has gained ground in recent years and would allow many employees to perform their duties from their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his view, this modality represents benefits for both employers and employees, due to the reduction in operating and commuting costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Mart\u00ednez expressed concern over the lack of definitive progress in the approval of the legislative piece, noting that the initiative has been displaced on several occasions by other projects he considers of lesser relevance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is striking that the update to the Labor Code has not yet been approved and that other projects of lesser importance and urgency have been prioritized,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He indicated that the debate on labor reform must be conducted with transparency and by guaranteeing the protection of workers’ fundamental rights, especially those related to job stability and acquired benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, Eduardo Mart\u00ednez considered it necessary for the different sectors involved to actively participate in the discussion of the regulations to ensure that any modification responds to the general interest and preserves the progress achieved in labor matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
