Las Terrenas<\/strong>.- The concern generated by construction work in an area near the Dominican Republic Navy<\/strong> detachment in Las Terrenas<\/strong> prompted the intervention of environmental authorities, who ordered the suspension of the work being carried out at the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The provincial director of Environment and Natural Resources in Saman\u00e1, Juan Carlos Olea, reported that the construction work of a wall that was intended to be built in the aforementioned space was stopped by order of the institution, after following up on the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The measure comes after residents and community members reported that the works could affect free access to a beach area traditionally used by the population, raising concerns about a possible restriction of passage to the coastline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the reports, the construction was taking place in a strategic area near the coast, which raised concerns among citizens who consider it essential to preserve public access to the beaches, in accordance with current legal provisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official explained that the Environment Ministry maintains surveillance over these types of interventions to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and protect spaces for public use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Various sectors of Las Terrenas valued the rapid action of the authorities, although they insisted on the need to maintain constant supervision to avoid situations that could limit the population’s right to enjoy the beaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation has reignited the debate over the balance between tourism development and the protection of public spaces, while community members reiterate that private investments and tourism projects should not be carried out to the detriment of citizens’ access to coastal areas, the natural heritage of all Dominicans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
