Santo Domingo.- The vice president of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Yv\u00e1n Lorenzo, asserted that the recent judicial rulings in favor of leaders linked to the Calamar case confirm the accusations that this organization has made for years regarding an alleged instrumentalization of justice for political purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lorenzo maintained that the judicial processes undertaken against the organization’s leaders sought to affect the party’s image and political structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey tried to bury the Dominican Liberation Party,\u201d the leader expressed, while assessing as positive the judicial decision that favored several of his colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The also former senator stated that the party will continue to denounce before democratic organizations and nations what it considers a manipulation of the Dominican justice system for political purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cWe are going to do everything in our power to make it known to all democratic nations that in the Dominican Republic, justice was manipulated and instrumentalized for purely political purposes,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
During the call, the leaders were asked about the possibility of those affected taking legal action following the favorable rulings; they stated that this decision will be up to the legal teams for each case, although they considered that there are grounds for it due to the alleged rights violations that occurred over more than five years of judicial proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding the accusations of political interference in the Public Prosecutor’s Office, they pointed out that previous statements by the President of the Republic would demonstrate, in their view, the existence of directives coming from the Executive Branch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
