Santo Domingo.- The former president of the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODIA), engineer Teodoro Tejada, expressed his concern regarding the reduction in investment in the construction sector, ordered by the authorities as a result of international conflicts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn the January-March period, public investment in this important sector was about 31.286 billion pesos, representing an 8.2 percent reduction compared to the year 2025\u201d, noted the construction professional.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Tejada stated that the construction sector has been declining since 2024, according to data presented by the General Directorate of Budget, and that trend continued in the month of April of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is very unfortunate and worrying, but since there is talk of reducing spending due to problems our economy is facing from external or internal conditions, the government immediately sets its sights on the construction sector, which is absurd,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The former president of CODIA recalled that Professor Juan Bosch, during the protests over the signing of the Agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 1984, said that the government of former president Salvador Jorge Blanco paralyzed the construction sector, which meant the paralysis of the entire country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The construction sector is classified as the fifth largest job-generating sector; however, for me, it occupies third place among the sectors that not only produce jobs but also stimulate our economy. When public investment is constrained, the construction sector likewise declines and is considerably affected, generating instability,” he stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
