Santo Domingo.\u2013<\/em><\/strong> The judges of the Second Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice granted the Public Prosecutor’s request this Wednesday and ratified the coercive measure consisting of three months of preventive detention imposed on suspended prosecutor Aurelio Valdez Alc\u00e1ntara, accused of alleged acts of corruption linked to the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court rejected the appeal filed by the defendant’s technical defense and confirmed the decision previously issued by the special investigating judge Isis Mu\u00f1iz, who ordered his imprisonment while investigations into the case continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valdez Alc\u00e1ntara is accused by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of allegedly receiving a 10,000 dollar bribe from a person under investigation within the framework of the file related to alleged acts of corruption at Senasa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the hearing, the defense requested the revocation of pretrial detention, considering that there are not sufficient elements to justify the precautionary measure. However, the Public Prosecutor’s Office asked the court to maintain the coercion, arguing that the grounds that gave rise to the first-instance decision persist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prosecution was represented by Wilson Camacho, Director General of Prosecution, along with prosecutors Andr\u00e9s Mena and Eduardo Vel\u00e1zquez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hearing was presided over by magistrate Francisco Jerez Mena, president of the Second Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the decision adopted, Aurelio Valdez Alc\u00e1ntara will remain detained at the Najayo Men’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR), where he is serving the precautionary measure while the judicial process against him continues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
