Santo Domingo, DR. – Journalist Hansel García expressed his deep dismay and rejection regarding the recent escalation of gender-based violence that has shaken the country, claiming the lives of at least seven women in a period of less than a week.

During his appearance on the program Esto No es Radio Show, the communications professional emphasized that, beyond the informative task of reporting the facts, his statement is a “saddened catharsis” and an urgent plea for help in favor of life and against the systematic violence that affects Dominican women

“We in this work, rather than exposing the facts, than painfully counting fallen women, perform a saddened catharsis, let out a desperate cry, ask for a voice of help in favor of the lives of our women, against violence,” commented Hansel García.

The gravity of the situation became even more evident over the past weekend, a date that should have been one of celebration for Mother’s Day, but which ended up being the period in which the highest number of victims at the hands of their partners or ex-partners was recorded. According to García, femicides represent a “disgrace” that keeps the country in a state of permanent mourning and society in a necessary state of alert regarding female vulnerability.

The cases reported in these last few days reflect a heartbreaking reality: the victims are women in their productive and prime years, ranging between 20 and 50 years old.
