National District.\u2013 <\/em><\/strong>Businessman Jos\u00e9 \u00c1ngel G\u00f3mez Cana\u00e1n,<\/em><\/strong> known as Jochi G\u00f3mez, asserted this Friday that he will face the trial on the merits in the so-called Chameleon case with determination and reiterated that the accusations made by the Public Prosecutor’s Office lack foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After learning of the decision by the Sixth Instruction Court of the National District to send the case to trial, G\u00f3mez Cana\u00e1n maintained that since the beginning of the process, he has denounced an alleged interest of the State in stripping him of his assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“What was said on the first day has been proven. The State wanted what is mine, I did not yield, and they are trying to take it from me. Now we are going to the merits trial, we are going all in,” he expressed upon leaving the hearing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The decision was adopted by Judge Yanibet Rivas, who issued an order to open a trial against all the defendants in the Chameleon case, including Hugo Beras, Jochi G\u00f3mez, and the other accused individuals linked to the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the preliminary hearing, the court accepted part of the legal qualification presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, maintaining charges such as sabotage, identity theft, criminal association, and embezzlement. However, the magistrate excluded the terrorism charge that appeared in the initial indictment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Public Prosecutor’s Office had requested that all defendants be sent to trial, considering that there is sufficient evidence for the charges to be debated in that phase of the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the prosecuting body, the investigations allowed for the collection of evidence regarding the alleged commission of crimes related to administrative corruption, fraud in public procurement, fraud against the State, and other irregularities linked to the management of public resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case now enters the merits trial stage, where the parties must present and debate the evidence before the court that will hear the proceedings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
