Bogot\u00e1 (EFE).- The scrutiny of the votes cast on Sunday in the first round of the presidential elections in Colombia<\/a> is practically finished, with 99.98% of the total, and coincides with the results of the preliminary count, the National Registry reported this Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The preliminary count data released by the National Registry show a 99.94% coincidence level compared to the scrutiny carried out by the judges of the Republic,” indicated the Registry, the entity that organizes the elections, in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the National Registry, “as of today, only 33 polling stations remain to be counted out of the more than 122,000 installed for these elections, due to weather conditions that have prevented the transport of electoral material to some municipal seats.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preliminary election data, released after polls closed, showed far-right candidate Abelardo de la Espriella as the most voted, followed by leftist Iv\u00e1n Cepeda, but were questioned by Petro, who for months has been denouncing alleged lack of transparency and electoral guarantees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De la Espriella, from the Defenders of the Homeland movement, obtained 10.3 million votes (43.74%), and Cepeda, from the Historic Pact, Petro’s party, received 9.6 million (40.90%), according to the initial count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As president, I do not accept the results of the preliminary count,” the president said on Sunday night, and claimed that the computer system had “800,000 additional people” compared to those in the electoral census, although he did not present evidence for that claim, which has sparked expressions of support for the National Registry from institutions and international organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Petro’s non-acceptance of the results was initially seconded by Cepeda, who nevertheless backtracked yesterday by acknowledging that his campaign has not found “evidence of facts of a dimension or depth that merit a statement regarding possible irregularities”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abThe entity highlights that the preliminary count released last Sunday had an accuracy of 99.94% compared to the aforementioned scrutiny, which evidences that the modifications were minimal and that the process of consolidation and dissemination of the results has been successful\u00bb, insisted the National Registry in the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the confirmation in the scrutiny of the initial vote count data, the National Registry is “moving forward decisively in the organization of the presidential runoff,” which will be contested on June 21 by De la Espriella and Cepeda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
