{"id":510363,"date":"2026-06-05T17:25:18","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T21:25:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/mescyt-and-albizu-university-promote-agreement-to-support-rehabilitation-of-inmates\/"},"modified":"2026-06-05T17:25:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T21:25:18","slug":"mescyt-and-albizu-university-promote-agreement-to-support-rehabilitation-of-inmates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/dominican-news\/mescyt-and-albizu-university-promote-agreement-to-support-rehabilitation-of-inmates\/","title":{"rendered":"Mescyt and Albizu University promote agreement to support rehabilitation of inmates"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Santo Domingo.-<\/strong>\u00a0The Penitentiary System of the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.presidencia.gob.do\/noticias\/el-mescyt-y-la-universidad-albizu-impulsan-acuerdo-para-apoyar-rehabilitacion-de-reclusos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Higher Education<\/a>, Science and Technology (Mescyt), and Albizu University of Puerto Rico are advancing in the formalization of a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening mental health care for incarcerated individuals and specialized training for prison staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative contemplates the development of academic programs, specialties, master&#8217;s degrees, and doctorates aimed at training professionals with the <strong>necessary competencies<\/strong> to address the <strong>emotional and psychological<\/strong> needs of the prison population, as part of the <strong>rehabilitation and social reintegration<\/strong> efforts promoted by the Dominican Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The honorary advisor to the Executive Branch for prison reform, <strong>Roberto Santana,<\/strong> highlighted that the mental health of inmates constitutes one of the <strong>main priorities<\/strong> within the <strong>transformation process<\/strong> of the national penitentiary system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained that many of the people deprived of liberty face situations of <strong>family isolation, emotional conflicts, and psychological disorders<\/strong> that require specialized attention to facilitate their rehabilitation and subsequent <strong>reintegration into society.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We recommend reading:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cTo develop effective rehabilitation and reintegration programs, it is essential that individuals deprived of liberty receive adequate emotional and psychological support. For this reason, we seek to strengthen the capabilities of prison staff and expand mental health care within correctional centers,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;stated Santana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For his part, the president of the Albizu University of Puerto Rico, <strong>Julio Santana<\/strong>, affirmed that the institution maintains a firm commitment to the <strong>training of specialized professionals<\/strong> in mental health and emotional well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He indicated that the university has collaborated for years with <strong>educational initiatives<\/strong> in the Dominican Republic and that it now seeks to expand that support through <strong>programs aimed at the penitentiary system.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cPeople deprived of liberty need tools that allow them to reconnect with their families and prepare for a productive life upon regaining their freedom.
