Santo Domingo.\u2013<\/strong> The “Farmacias del Pueblo” (People’s Pharmacies) model managed by the Essential Medicines Program and Central Logistics Support<\/a> (Promese\/CAL) has sparked the interest of Honduran authorities<\/strong>, who are evaluating the possibility of implementing a similar initiative in their country<\/strong> to expand the coverage of low-cost medicines<\/strong> for the population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To that end, the Director General of Consumer Protection of the Government of Honduras, Dr. Danilo Lou,<\/strong> paid a visit to the headquarters of Promese\/CAL, where he was received by the institution’s Director General, Jos\u00e9 Luis L\u00f3pez P\u00e9rez.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, Lou expressed his interest in learning firsthand<\/strong> about the operation of the People’s Pharmacies program, considered one of the main mechanisms for access to essential medicines<\/strong> in the Dominican Republic and one of the most extensive social initiatives of the public health system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit allowed the Honduran official to learn about various operational and technical aspects<\/strong> that support the Dominican model. Among the topics addressed were the composition of the basic list of medicines, the criteria used for the selection of pharmaceutical products, the mechanisms for quality control and assurance,<\/strong> as well as the procedures for the distribution and dispensing<\/strong> of medicines through the national network of Farmacias del Pueblo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the tour, Danilo Lou visited the general warehouse of Promese\/CAL<\/strong>, where he was able to observe the logistical processes implemented by the institution to guarantee the timely supply<\/strong> of medicines and medical supplies throughout the national territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, Jos\u00e9 Luis L\u00f3pez P\u00e9rez explained the evolution that Promese\/CAL has experienced in recent years and highlighted the social impact<\/strong> of the work carried out under the guidelines of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
