San Antonio, United States. \u2013 Dominican Karl-Anthony Towns stated this Friday that he felt the presence of his late mother during the final seconds of the New York Knicks’ victory over the San Antonio Spurs in the second game of the NBA Finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the 105-104 victory at the Frost Bank Center, Towns revealed that he prayed to his mother before the final shot missed by the Frenchman Victor Wembanyama, a decisive play that allowed the Knicks to take a 2-0 lead in the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen you lose one of your parents, you always look for signs. I will accept any sign I can get. I prayed to my mom before that possession and I take it as a sign that she is here with me,\u201d the Dominican player expressed in statements after the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Towns also highlighted the defense executed by the Knicks on the last play of the game and praised the team’s collective effort, especially the defensive contribution of Mitchell Robinson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe knew we had to stop them on that last possession. We hadn’t managed to do it for much of the fourth quarter, but the team responded with character and resilience,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Dominican center was one of the main figures of the game by recording 21 points and 13 rebounds, leading the Knicks to a key road victory in San Antonio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the victory, the New York franchise is now just two wins away from clinching the NBA championship. The series now moves to Madison Square Garden in New York, where the third and fourth games will be played.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the game, Spurs interim head coach Mitch Johnson acknowledged Towns’ impact on the series and admitted that his team will need to increase their defensive intensity against the Dominican player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
