Madrid.-<\/strong> King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia<\/strong>, and their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sof\u00eda<\/strong>, received the Pope<\/a><\/strong> this Saturday at the Royal Palace, where the welcome ceremony for Leo XIV’s<\/strong> first visit to Spain is taking place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Felipe VI and Queen Letizia greeted the pontiff at the foot of the car, and once in the Plaza de la Armer\u00eda, their daughters, who were in the honorary tribune, did the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other authorities were also present at the Royal Palace, such as the Prime Minister, Pedro S\u00e1nchez, the President of the Congress, Francina Armengol, and the President of the Senate, Pedro Roll\u00e1n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pope arrived at the palace in a closed vehicle, waving from the window to the people gathered to welcome him upon his arrival at the Palace, where the papal car was escorted by dozens of royal guards on horseback.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Immediately afterwards, the anthems of the Vatican City State and Spain were heard, as well as gun salutes, and then the monarch and the pope reviewed the troops that were rendering honors to them, before greeting the official delegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leo XIV is the second pope received at the Royal Palace, which in 1982 hosted John Paul II on the first of his five trips to the country.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After the welcome ceremony outside, the King and Queen, Princess Leonor, and Infanta Sof\u00eda held a private meeting with the Pope in the Gasparini Room of the palace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
