Boca Chica.<\/strong> \u2013 The Dominican College of Journalists<\/strong> (CDP) and about 30 landowners grouped in the Boca Chica Smallholders Association<\/strong> denounced alleged attempts of illegal occupation of plots located on plot 1-77 of DS6<\/strong>, in that municipality, by a company dedicated to the extraction and processing of construction aggregates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The complainants asserted that they possess around 2,000 tareas<\/strong> within the 12,000<\/strong> that make up the aforementioned plot and stated that several of their properties have been intervened with the removal of the topsoil and the tearing down of fences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As they explained, the lands were handed over more than four years ago through an exchange process carried out by the State Sugar Council (CEA), which is why they claim to have the documentation that supports their property rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The owners indicated that heavy machinery, including excavators, crushers, bulldozers, and trucks, has entered the plots, causing damage to cultivated areas and improvements made by the landowners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They request intervention from the authorities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Isidro Prensa, president of the Boca Chica Plot Owners Association, stated that the owners have invested millions of pesos in the preparation of the land and requested the intervention of President Luis Abinader to prevent them from being stripped of their properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe CEA placed us here and we have all the corresponding documentation,\u201d he expressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, Olivo De Le\u00f3n, advisor to the Dominican College of Journalists (CDP), stated that the guild owns about 10,000 square meters in the area, also received through an exchange by the CEA, where it plans to build a club for journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De Le\u00f3n denounced that the material extraction operations have affected land and crops, in addition to causing damage to fences and other infrastructure installed by the owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CEA promises to take action<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Following the complaints, a CDP commission and representatives of the smallholders met at the site with Ren\u00e9 Columna Guzm\u00e1n, zonal manager of the CEA and National Assets, who listened to the concerns of those affected and committed to taking measures to protect the disputed lands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
