This has brought an investment of nearly 3 billion dollars to the Dominican Republic,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;said Santos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When interviewed on a television program, the minister recalled that the <strong>electricity sector<\/strong> has led in <strong>foreign investment attraction<\/strong> over the last four years, with <strong>USD 1 billion annually<\/strong>, which has represented a key factor for the Dominican economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The head of Energy and Mines also pointed out that several projects are being developed in the country to <strong>strengthen storage capacity<\/strong> and contribute to injection during peak hours, which in the Dominican case is <strong>between 7:00 and 11:00 at night.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>We recommend reading:<a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/economia\/joel-santos-balance-mineria-rd\/\">Joel Santos: balance between environment and economic impact must guide DR mining<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cBut this will also provide stability to the system as we move towards more renewable energy,\u201d<\/em> Santos noted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He recalled that <strong>200 MW<\/strong> of storage will be ready by the end of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The minister said that the country must continue to bet on <strong>greater generation of renewable energy<\/strong> to reduce dependence, not only on fossil fuels, but also on <strong>international policy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding mining, Santos indicated that, along with energy, it is the <strong>main sector for foreign investment<\/strong> in the last four-year period. He recalled that this economic engine plays a countercyclical role, especially in times of international crisis, mainly due to high gold prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He indicated that the Dominican economy <strong>grew by 4.0%<\/strong> and the mining sector by 10.7% in the first four months of 2026, contributing 20 billion pesos in tax revenue during that period. <em>&#8220;In other words, it is going to exceed the 45 billion pesos it generated last year,&#8221;<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He pointed out, however, that the Dominican Republic must move to strengthen <strong>environmental aspects and resources<\/strong> for mining communities and continue the development of policies in that sector that continue to contribute to <strong>economic growth.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The minister pointed out that the Mining Law continues to be reviewed, in such a way that what relates to investment in communities and the mechanisms under which funds are transferred can be strengthened, so that they are of <strong>greater benefit to the citizenry.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cAt the end of the day, it is in everyone&#8217;s interest to have sustainability; which is not just<a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/nacionales\/fallece-madre-de-joel-santos\/\"> environmental<\/a>.
