Santo Domingo Este.<\/strong>\u2013 The Santo Domingo Este City Hall<\/strong> (ASDE) launched the 2026 hurricane season operation, with a broad deployment of more than 1,100<\/strong> people including municipal staff, members of relief agencies, military personnel, and volunteers, with the goal of preventing risks and protecting the population against the possible impact of atmospheric phenomena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the authorities, the 2026 hurricane season anticipates the formation of 14 atmospheric phenomena, of which six could reach the category of major hurricane, which has motivated the strengthening of preventive actions throughout the municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor D\u00edo Astacio reported that, as part of the measures adopted, two high-capacity pumps were acquired for the drainage of areas vulnerable to flooding, in addition to the constant intervention in critical sectors in order to reduce risks during the rainy season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authorities indicated that tree pruning work is already being carried out in different sectors to avoid damage to power lines, as well as the cleaning of storm drains and sanitation of streams, with the purpose of improving rainwater drainage and preventing flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The municipal director of Civil Defense in Santo Domingo East, Juan Carlos Campa\u00f1a, reported that more than 300 specialized volunteers will be part of the operation, including divers, rescuers, and heavy equipment operators deployed throughout the area. Likewise, he urged the population not to throw solid waste into the streets and to follow the guidelines of emergency agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, the intendant of the Santo Domingo Este Fire Department, Roberto Santos M\u00e9ndez, pointed out that 212 members of the institution will be available with tanker trucks and specialized equipment to respond to any eventuality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the director of the Municipal Police, Juan Ram\u00f3n Aquino, indicated that more than 500 agents have been trained in prevention and emergency response tasks, with the goal of assisting citizens in vulnerable areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On behalf of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET), Julio Ord\u00f3\u00f1ez explained that the forecast for the 2026 hurricane season contemplates the formation of 14 atmospheric systems, with the possibility that six could evolve into major hurricanes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the operation, temporary shelters will be set up in churches, educational centers, clubs, and other community spaces, with the support of the Armed Forces and relief agencies to ensure the safety of displaced citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Institutions such as the 911 National Emergency and Security Attention System, the Dominican Red Cross, the Ministry of Public Health, and the National Health Service (SNS) are also participating in the operation, in a coordinated effort for the protection of lives and the reduction of damages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
