{"id":510848,"date":"2026-06-10T16:16:45","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T20:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/world-prostate-cancer-day-june-11\/"},"modified":"2026-06-10T16:16:45","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T20:16:45","slug":"world-prostate-cancer-day-june-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/uncategorized\/world-prostate-cancer-day-june-11\/","title":{"rendered":"World Prostate Cancer Day | June 11"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The size of the prostate changes progressively with age and if it becomes too enlarged it can lead to problems such as prostate cancer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This gland is walnut-shaped and is located below the bladder, in front of the rectum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The size of the prostate changes progressively with age, and if it becomes too enlarged, it can lead to problems such as prostate cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prostate cancer originates when malignant cells in the prostate begin to grow out of control in the prostate tissues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This disease is considered the leading cause of cancer mortality in adult men because most cases are diagnosed at advanced stages.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is estimated that, globally, 1 million 414 thousand 259 people were diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020, placing this type of cancer as the fourth most common cancer in the world, according to data from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2020, Mexico recorded 26,742 new cases and 7,500 deaths from this tumor, according to data from the interactive platform Global Cancer Observatory (Globocan), of the World Health Organization (WHO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Risk factors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The risk factors that can increase the risk of suffering from this disease are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Age. This disease can develop from the age of 45, although the risk increases with age.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>History of prostate cancer in close relatives such as parents or siblings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Race: African American men are more likely to develop prostate cancer than other men.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are also modifiable risk factors, such as excessive consumption of red meat and dairy products, drinking alcohol, smoking, and being obese or overweight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Diagnosis and treatment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To diagnose this disease, the doctor must perform a clinical prostate examination and, subsequently, a laboratory study called Prostate-Specific Antigen, which is performed using a blood sample.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The treatment for this disease will depend on the growth and progression of the tumor. The doctor may indicate surgeries, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the disease is diagnosed early and treated in its initial stages, it is curable in 85 percent of cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Symptoms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This condition is slow-growing; therefore, it does not present symptoms in early stages, until the disease is already advanced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The symptoms of this type of cancer are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-weak or interrupted urine flow<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-sudden urge to urinate and increased frequency<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-difficulty starting the urine flow and emptying the bladder completely<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-pain or burning when urinating<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-difficulty having an erection<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-presence of blood in the urine or semen<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-back, hip, or pelvic pain that does not go away<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Prevention<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As it is a silent disease in its initial phase, it is recommended that men over 45 years of age undergo an annual Prostate-Specific Antigen test and a physical examination. If there is a family history of this type of cancer, the tests should be performed starting at age 40.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Decrease the consumption of red meat or dairy products<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Maintain a healthy weight<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Eat healthy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">-Avoid smoking and drinking<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commemoration of <strong>World Prostate Cancer Day<\/strong> seeks to raise awareness and sensitize the male population about the importance of early diagnosis of this disease, in order to begin treatment early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Health Institute for Well-being<\/strong> calls on all men over 40 years of age to go for periodic medical check-ups, to avoid diseases, or to detect them early.
