Lindor took an important step forward on Friday by facing live pitching for the first time since suffering the injury on April 22. Additionally, he participated in a simulated two-inning defensive session at shortstop within a controlled environment at Citi Field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As explained by Venezuelan manager Carlos Mendoza, these practices allow for evaluating the player’s progress without exposing him to the demands of an official game. During the session, Lindor did not run the bases after his offensive contacts and only performed defensive plays that did not pose a risk to his recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We want to move as fast as possible, but in the smartest way,” Stearns expressed when referring to the veteran player’s rehabilitation process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mets plan for Lindor to participate in further similar sessions next week, gradually increasing his defensive workload. Subsequently, the organization will evaluate whether the next step will be a minor league rehabilitation assignment before his return to the Major Leagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Our expectation is that he will play games for us this month. We don’t know exactly when, but every day we are closer to that moment,” stated Stearns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lindor, 32, has been a fundamental piece of the Mets’ lineup since his arrival to the team in 2021. However, since the end of last season, he has faced various physical issues that have affected his continuity, including discomfort in his elbow, wrist, and now his calf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before entering the injured list, the Puerto Rican played 24 games this season, recording a .226 batting average, with two home runs, two stolen bases, and a .669 OPS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lindor’s absence has forced the Mets to make defensive adjustments. Shortstop Bo Bichette has taken on daily responsibilities at shortstop, although he is expected to return to third base once the Puerto Rican is medically cleared. In that scenario, Brett Baty would move to a more versatile role within the roster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
