Multiple homicides<\/strong> continue to be one of the main security concerns in Honduras. According to data from the Violence Observatory of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH),<\/strong> during the first months of 2026, 16 massacres have been recorded, leaving a toll of 75 fatalities.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>The figure reflects an increase compared to the same period in 2025, when 16 multiple homicides were also recorded, but with a total of 57 victims.<\/strong> This means that during the current year, 18 more people<\/strong> have been reported dead in these types of violent events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The director of the Violence Observatory, Migdonia Ayestas<\/strong>, explained that while the number of massacres recorded is similar to last year’s, the increase in the number of victims<\/strong> evidences a greater severity<\/strong> in the attacks perpetrated this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>According to the data presented by the university organization, among the 75 victims<\/strong> recorded in 2026<\/strong>, there are eight women, which reflects that this type of event continues to affect both men and women in different regions of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayestas<\/strong> pointed out that violence<\/strong> remains one of the main concerns of the citizenry and recalled that insecurity continues to be among the problems that most worry the Honduran population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>The specialist indicated that, in addition to multiple homicides, Honduras continues to face high levels of violence<\/strong> related to different external causes of death<\/strong>. Among them, homicides and traffic accidents stand out, which remain among the main factors of mortality in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Violence Observatory<\/strong> warned that most massacres tend to occur in densely populated neighborhoods and communities, often in public spaces where there is a significant presence of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This situation causes a strong psychological impact<\/strong> on the population, as it generates fear and uncertainty among those who live in or pass through these areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Armed attacks in public spaces continue to generate concern among the population. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most recent cases occurred in the municipality of San Manuel, Cort\u00e9s department,<\/strong> where an armed attack inside a restaurant left three people dead and two injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event was added to the list of multiple homicides recorded during the year and once again brought to the table the debate on citizen security and the need to strengthen crime prevention strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite these events, security authorities maintain that some indicators reflect a reduction in certain crimes compared to the previous year. However, specialists believe that massacres continue to have a strong social impact due to the high number of victims these attacks leave behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
