Lima.- <\/strong>Juntos por el Per\u00fa, the political party of leftist Roberto S\u00e1nchez, which is battling<\/a> vote by vote for the Presidency of Peru against right-winger Keiko Fujimori, has held a popular fundraiser to collect money to be able to annul 1,700 polling stations that benefit its rival, after having found alleged irregularities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With 98.388% of the vote counted, 7,916 votes separate Fujimori, who is winning the presidential runoff with 50.022% of the vote, from S\u00e1nchez, who has garnered 49.978% of the votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) finished counting the pending records yesterday and Peruvians are waiting for the special electoral juries (JEE) to finish reviewing 1,495 challenged records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juntos por el Per\u00fa filed an appeal to invalidate 1,751 polling stations in Lima and in the northern regions of Lambayeque, Amazonas, and \u00c1ncash, where it argues that alleged irregularities and supposed manipulation of records have occurred that would favor Fuerza Popular, Fujimori’s party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the document, the party identified “serious, consistent, and systematic indications” and repetitive voting patterns to the direct benefit of Fuerza Popular in districts within those departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Annulling a polling station in Peru costs 1,375 soles (404 dollars) and precisely this Friday, the National Jury of Elections (JNE) rejected JP’s annulment request since it had not completed the payment, which amounts to 2.4 million soles (705,000 dollars).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Saturday, through its social media channels, the leftist party called for the solidarity of its supporters to send financial donations to fund the annulment of polling stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Your solidarity is fundamental to continue with the defense of the popular vote and to cover the expenses of the process before the corresponding electoral authorities,” indicated JP, highlighting that all information regarding such payments is disseminated solely through the party’s official accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this sense, he asked S\u00e1nchez’s followers “not to be taken by surprise by fake accounts” and to always verify the data before making any contribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
