Moscow.- <\/strong>Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated his US counterpart, Donald Trump<\/a>, today on the occasion of his 80th birthday and celebrated the proximity of a possible agreement between the United States and Iran, during a telephone conversation held between both leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to what was reported in a telephone press conference by the Russian presidential advisor, Yuri Ushakov, the conversation, which lasted 55 minutes, was friendly in nature and they “did not just exchange pleasantries” but also discussed the international situation, possible contacts between representatives of both sides, and the possibility of an agreement between Washington and Tehran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abRegarding the congratulations, they were informal and reflected the nature of the personal relationship between both leaders. The Russian president did not hide his admiration for Donald Trump’s fighting spirit, his ability to withstand blows, successfully overcome obstacles, and achieve his goals with perseverance\u00bb, stated Ushakov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Putin’s advisor, “Trump was moved by Putin’s words and expressed his gratitude, noting that this was the first foreign leader to call him at the White House” to congratulate him. In turn, the head of the White House congratulated his Russian counterpart on the recent celebration of Russia Day and expressed “his respect for the Russian people”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00abThe conversation also addressed the situation regarding the memorandum of understanding currently being drafted between the United States and Iran. Donald Trump stated that the agreement is close and expressed his hope that the results of the difficult, but ultimately successful negotiations could be announced today\u00bb, commented Ushakov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump acknowledged that the path to the agreement “had been thorny, with many obstacles, and not only on the part of the Iranian leadership”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“However, ultimately, the efforts of the American negotiators, with the assistance of Pakistani mediators, allowed for an acceptable result” for Washington, according to what Trump stated to Putin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. leader “expressed his gratitude for Russia’s involvement (in the search for solutions to the conflict) and, in particular, for the proposals presented to find constructive solutions”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, Putin expressed his satisfaction with the fact that “the conflict, which threatened to spread throughout the region and beyond, seems to be under control”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abThe willingness to continue working to stabilize the situation and resolve the underlying problems that still require special attention was highlighted\u00bb, indicated Ushakov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukrainian conflict<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the Ukrainian conflict, “Trump reiterated the need to end hostilities” and “affirmed he is willing to influence both his European partners and Kiev, including during upcoming contacts at the G7 summit.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The presidents addressed the recent Ukrainian attacks against civilian targets on Russian territory, agreeing that they “hinder the search for a solution”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump also stated that ending the war as soon as possible would “open up prospects” for building “a new dimension in relations between the United States and Russia,” according to the advisor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Putin indicated that “no attempt by the Kiev regime to attack civilian infrastructure in Russia would change Ukraine’s critical situation on the battlefield,” no matter how much European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “try to present the situation in a diametrically opposite way” in order to prolong the conflict and continue hostilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
