Santo Domingo<\/strong>.- The Dominican Republic received 5.1701 billion dollars in remittances in the first five months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%, the Central Bank reported this Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May alone, remittances reached 1,090.2 million dollars, a figure that exceeds what was received in the same month in 2025 by 104.8 million, a year-on-year increase of 10.6%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The issuer pointed out that this behavior is largely attributed to remittances sent by the diaspora residing in the United States, the country that originated 82.3% of the formal flows received in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This result aligns with the performance of the U.S. economy, where the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) non-manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) recorded a value of 54.5 in May, sustaining the expansion of the services sector, which accounts for a significant proportion of the employment of Dominicans in that country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remittances constitute one of the main sources of foreign currency generation for the Dominican Republic, along with tourism and export free zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Central Bank also highlighted the receipt of remittances through formal channels from other countries during May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this order, Spain recorded a value of 62.0 million dollars, equivalent to 6.2% of the total, positioning itself as the second-largest source country in consistency with the volume of the Dominican diaspora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was followed by Italy and Haiti, with a 1.2% share each, and Switzerland, with 1.1% of the received flows. The remaining percentage was distributed among nations such as France, Canada, and Germany, among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
