Origin of Autistic Pride<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The creation of Autistic Pride Day<\/strong> in 2005 was an initiative of the group Aspies For Freedom<\/strong>, a non-profit organization that fights for the rights of autistic people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this, it aims to achieve positive changes and raise awareness in society regarding people’s prejudices towards Autism, joining the efforts of other organizations to commemorate this anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Autism?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)<\/strong> is not a brain disease or a disability. It is a permanent condition or disorder of neurological and genetic origin, which begins in childhood. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It consists of a set of alterations that affect child neurodevelopment, impacting the individual’s social, communication, and behavioral skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2013, the term Autism<\/strong> was modified to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)<\/strong>, which includes three disorders:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n

    In the celebration of this world day, various educational, informative, and awareness-raising activities (in-person and virtual) are carried out, such as workshops and conferences, as well as recreational events with the communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
