Santo Domingo.-<\/strong> Members of the Migration and Human Rights Collective (CMDH<\/a>) went to the National Palace this Monday morning, where they held a meeting with Government representatives to express their rejection of the migration protocol applied in public hospitals and request its elimination.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

During the meeting, the members of the collective argued that health centers must guarantee medical care without discrimination and remain safe spaces for all people, considering that access to health is a fundamental right that should not be conditioned by the patients’ immigration status.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The organization indicated that its position is supported by more than 70 civil society entities, including Caritas Arquidiocesana, Participaci\u00f3n Ciudadana, Casa Abierta, CIPAF, CONAMUCA, CE-MUJER, Foro Ciudadano, Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Doctors of the World, OBMICA, Red CLAMOR, and the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), among others.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

\u201cA delivery room is no place to develop migration policy. When a pregnant woman, a new mother, or a family with children avoids going to the hospital out of fear, lives and public health are being put at risk,\u201d stated representatives of the CMDH.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The collective maintained that the presence of immigration agents in hospitals limits access to the right to health and especially affects pregnant women, girls, boys, and Haitian migrants, as well as Dominicans of Haitian descent, Black people, or undocumented citizens, who, they assert, could be victims of racial profiling.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Likewise, they stated that they went to the National Palace to request the repeal of a measure that, in their view, generates fear, exclusion, and risks for the health of vulnerable populations, in addition to representing a threat to national public health.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The organization reiterated that the Dominican Constitution recognizes health as a fundamental right and establishes the State’s obligation to guarantee universal and non-discriminatory access to health services.<\/p>n”","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
