Santo Domingo.<\/strong> \u2013 The Minister of Interior and Police<\/strong>, Faride Raful<\/strong>, reported this Monday that 59%<\/strong> of the homicides registered in the Dominican Republic<\/strong> originate from social conflicts, for which she reiterated the call to strengthen citizen coexistence and promote the peaceful resolution of conflicts as a tool to continue reducing violence.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

While offering the conclusions of the follow-up meeting for the Citizen Security Plan<\/strong>, led by President Luis Abinader<\/strong>, the official highlighted that the cumulative homicide rate stands at 6.98 per 100,000 inhabitants, the lowest recorded for this date in the last four years.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Raful explained that 25% of homicides correspond to acts committed by unknown persons, while 15% is linked to crime.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Likewise, he detailed that, within homicides originating from social conflicts, 73% occur due to brawls, 19.2% are related to gender-based violence, and 7.8% respond to other causes.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The minister highlighted that 29 provinces in the country maintain single-digit homicide rates and noted that the cumulative reduction reaches 44.3% compared to 2023, when the rate stood at 12.54.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

\u201cWe must prioritize the issue of coexistence. It is an effort that does not only correspond to the authorities, but that we must carry out in a coordinated manner with the citizenry, promoting conflict resolution mechanisms alternative to violence<\/strong>\u201d, he expressed.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The official indicated that the Task Force will continue to prioritize actions aimed at strengthening citizen coexistence, relying on the Local Security, Citizenship, and Gender Tables, as well as the Citizen Coexistence Bill, which is already with the Executive Branch for its subsequent submission to the National Congress.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Raful also highlighted the launch of the \u201cUnbreakable\u201d campaign, a Government initiative aimed at promoting values, resilience, and positive life projects among children, adolescents, and youth.<\/p>n”\n\n“n
