Honduras will seek to position an agenda<\/strong> on democracy, hemispheric security, and multilateralism during its participation in the 56th General Assembly<\/strong> of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Panama, as reported by Foreign Minister Mireya Ag\u00fcero, who indicated that the delegation will present these pillars in work sessions and bilateral meetings.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

<\/a>The official explained that one of the main objectives will be to promote debate on democratization in the region<\/strong>, with a focus on strengthening institutions and respecting democratic principles as a basis for the stability and development of American countries.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Another of the pillars of the Honduran proposal is related to the need to recover a practical and effective multilateralism<\/strong>, capable of generating concrete responses to the common challenges faced by the nations of the continent.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

According to the chancellor, the intention is to promote a vision of international cooperation <\/strong>based on shared objectives and mechanisms that allow for tangible results to be achieved for the peoples of the region.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

<\/a>\u201cWe want to position the need to return to a practical multilateralism, truly based on common ideas and the construction of joint solutions,\u201d he stated.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Ag\u00fcero maintained that, in an increasingly complex and changing international scenario, multilateral spaces remain tools for countries like Honduras<\/strong> to defend their interests, strengthen strategic alliances, and participate in the definition of regional policies.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Hemispheric security<\/strong> is the third topic that the Honduran delegation will bring to the discussion. The proposal, according to the foreign minister, goes beyond approaches linked exclusively to the internal security of States.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The Honduran delegation will present these axes in the working sessions and bilateral meetings to reinforce the country’s presence in multilateral spaces.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Honduras will seek to promote a debate on combating transnational organized crime<\/strong>, a phenomenon that affects multiple countries and which, according to Ag\u00fcero, requires coordinated responses between governments, international organizations, and cooperation entities.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Diplomatic relations and international agenda<\/h2>n”\n\n“n

In parallel to the assembly discussions, Honduras will also take advantage of the meeting to strengthen its diplomatic relations and expand its international cooperation ties.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Ag\u00fcero highlighted that since the beginning of President Nasry Asfura<\/strong>‘s administration, priority was given to building relationships with international financial organizations, cooperation agencies, and allied governments, with the purpose of generating development opportunities for the country.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The chancellor assured that these efforts are already producing results in resource management, technical cooperation<\/strong>, and international support for initiatives promoted by the Government.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

He also stressed that one of the current administration’s priorities is to reposition Honduras on the international stage, after several years in which, as he indicated, the country lost presence and influence in various diplomatic spaces.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

In that framework, he highlighted progress in strengthening diplomatic missions and in rebuilding strategic relationships with various international partners.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

As part of that process, Ag\u00fcero revealed that Honduras recently established diplomatic relations<\/strong> with a new country during the activities carried out within the framework of the OAS General Assembly, although he avoided giving further details about the timelines or next steps of that approach.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The Foreign Minister also mentioned progress in bodies of the United Nations<\/strong> system and the approval of resolutions linked to national interests.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

In addition, he reported that the Foreign Ministry is already working on the international agenda that President Asfura will develop during the next United Nations General Assembly, scheduled for September<\/strong>, where Honduras will seek to strengthen its presence and expand areas of cooperation.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Ag\u00fcero also highlighted the work of the Honduran diplomatic mission in Washington<\/strong>, on issues related to trade, transportation, bilateral cooperation, and migration affairs.<\/p>n”\n\n“n
