Santiago<\/strong>.- The defense for H\u00e9ctor Antonio Lora Cruceta, former president of the Board for the Fight Against Cancer, asserted this Tuesday that their client never managed public funds and denounced that the judicial process against him responds to an alleged interest by the Public Ministry to intervene and control the Cibao Regional Oncological Institute.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

During the hearing of the case, lawyer Juan Francisco Rodr\u00edguez Consor\u00f3 reported that he submitted documents and certifications to the court which, he claims, prove that Lora Cruceta did not hold the status of a public official nor did he manage state resources during his tenure at the head of the entity.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

\u201cThere is a certification from the Ministry of the Presidency and the corresponding institutions that establishes that during the 2018-2025 period, H\u00e9ctor Lora Cruceta did not manage public funds,\u201d the jurist maintained.<\/p>n<\/blockquote>n”\n\n“n

Rodr\u00edguez Consor\u00f3 described the process as an unjustified persecution and asserted that the Public Prosecutor’s Office is using State resources to investigate a private, non-profit institution.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

\u201cThe Oncology Center is a private institution that does not belong to the public health network and did not receive public funds, as established by the Ministry of Public Health itself,\u201d he stated.<\/p>n<\/blockquote>n”\n\n“n

The lawyer also stated that the more than RD$3.7 billion that are part of the investigation correspond to resources billed and used by the medical center itself for its operation, rejecting any allegation of embezzlement.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

\u201cWe are going to demonstrate with evidence what really happened with those funds. All the money that entered the Oncology Center was invested in the same institution,\u201d he\/she indicated.<\/p>n<\/blockquote>n”\n\n“n

The hearing was suspended due to the late hour and was rescheduled for next Thursday, when the parties will continue presenting their arguments and evidence before the court.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The defense insisted that the case file lacks evidentiary grounds and questioned why the Public Prosecutor’s Office maintains the accusation against a person who, it maintains, never held a public office nor had control over state resources.<\/p>n”\n\n“n
