Washington .- <\/strong>The U.S. Tsunami Warning System<\/a> issued a tsunami warning this Wednesday for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake registered near the coast of Venezuela.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The tsunami warning was issued at 18:40 local time for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The earthquake, recorded in the northwest of Montalb\u00e1n, in central Venezuela, was felt this Thursday in a large part of the country, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Earthquake details<\/h3>n”\n\n“n

The epicenter of the tremor was located about 300 kilometers east of Caracas, the country’s capital, in the municipality of Montalb\u00e1n, Carabobo state, in the central region of Venezuela.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 13.2 kilometers, so it was classified as a shallow earthquake, according to information from the USGS.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Numerous inhabitants of Caracas took to the streets to take shelter amidst the strong seismic movement, while images of homes where the shaking caused various objects to fall began to circulate on social media.<\/p>n”\n\n“n
