Santo Domingo.\u2013<\/strong> President Luis Abinader inaugurated the new Banreservas Virgilio Travieso Soto Arena this Thursday, after completing a comprehensive transformation of the Palacio de los Deportes to turn it into one of the most modern and functional sports facilities in the Caribbean.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

During the event, the president stated that the Dominican Republic now has the Banreservas Virgilio Travieso Soto Arena, one of the best sports facilities in Central America and the Caribbean, with the necessary conditions to host NBA games.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Abinader also expressed that he does not rule out managing the hosting of games from the world’s premier basketball league on Dominican soil and congratulated Banreservas and the Ministry of Sports for the initiative to transform the historic Palacio de los Deportes into a world-class arena, highlighting that this project strengthens national sports and positions the country to host major international events.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The renovated facilities meet international standards for hosting basketball competitions and other sports disciplines, as well as for holding recreational events, cultural activities, and world-class shows.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The banking executive highlighted that this is the first time in the country’s history that a company has linked its brand to a sports facility, as is normally done in more developed societies.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The Banreservas Arena marks a new stage for national sports by offering the Dominican Republic an international-level venue, prepared to host high-performance competitions, concerts, shows, and major international events.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

A historic transformation<\/strong><\/p>n”\n\n“n

The remodeling of the Arena Banreservas Virgilio Travieso Soto included a comprehensive renovation of more than 11,200 square meters, distributed over three levels, with a capacity for 8,270 spectators, consolidating the venue as one of the most modern sports and entertainment spaces in the Caribbean.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The project incorporated a new court certified by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), baskets with FIBA Level 1 specifications, a high-definition central LED screen with 360-degree viewing, perimeter screens, a professional sound system, specialized lighting for television broadcasts, fixed and retractable bleachers, as well as accessible restrooms for people with disabilities.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The new facilities were also designed to provide better conditions for the athletes, with four recovery rooms, four player locker rooms, four individual locker rooms for referees, four offices for coaches, and a fully equipped infirmary.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

In the operational area, modern administrative offices, machine rooms and electrical systems, monitoring areas, and support spaces for maintenance and janitorial staff were enabled, optimizing the facility’s operation for sports and entertainment events.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The Banreservas Arena also features a modern air conditioning system with 1,200 tons of cooling capacity, consisting of three 400-ton chillers and 20 air handling units, ensuring greater comfort for athletes, artists, and spectators during any activity.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

As part of the exterior renovation, the dome, the main facade, and the surrounding spaces were fully restored, including new sidewalks and landscaping areas. Likewise, seven suites were built, including one for the press, two exclusive boxes (Presidential and VIP), and a modern Press Room equipped for the coverage of national and international events.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

With these improvements, the Virgilio Travieso Soto Banreservas Arena is positioned as a multipurpose venue prepared to host high-level sports competitions, concerts, shows, and international events, reaffirming the commitment of Banreservas and the Dominican Government to strengthening sports infrastructure, boosting national talent, and promoting the Dominican Republic as a host for major events.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The new Banreservas Virgilio Travieso Soto Arena will host the matches corresponding to the third qualifying window of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup on July 3 and 6, in which the Dominican Republic national team will face the representatives of Nicaragua and the United States.<\/p>n”\n\n“n
