Santo Domingo<\/strong>.- The Ministry of Health reported that maternal and infant mortality shows a reduction during the year 2026, while the main epidemiological indicators remain at low levels and within what is expected for the season.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

According to the corresponding epidemiological bulletin<\/strong>, maternal mortality records 57 cumulative deaths in 2026<\/strong>, a figure lower than the 86 reported<\/strong> during the same period of the previous year<\/strong>. Meanwhile, infant deaths<\/strong> reach 697 cumulative cases<\/strong>, below the 768<\/strong> registered in the same period of 2025<\/strong>, which evidences a downward trend<\/strong> in these sensitive public health indicators.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The institution explained that these results are being kept under follow-up through the strengthening of epidemiological surveillance<\/strong> and the timely monitoring of the behavior of these events.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Likewise, he reported that, in addition to the circulation of respiratory viruses at usual levels, other events of health interest<\/strong> also show favorable behavior<\/strong>, with significant decreases in the incidence of diseases such as malaria<\/strong> and contained figures for dengue, leptospirosis<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The Health institution indicated that epidemiological surveillance<\/strong> contributes to detecting any change in disease transmission patterns<\/strong> of importance to public health.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The aforementioned bulletin reports that during Epidemiological Week 23<\/strong>, three cases of dengue<\/strong> were confirmed, corresponding to residents of the provinces of La Altagracia, San Juan, and La Romana. The cumulative total amounts to 125 confirmed cases so far this year,<\/a><\/strong> a figure that reflects low circulation of the virus compared to previous periods.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Health authorities are implementing the relevant control measures to prevent the transmission of the disease and are constantly carrying out community interventions<\/strong> aimed at eliminating breeding sites and preventing outbreaks.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Regarding leptospirosis, four cases were confirmed during the week in the provinces of Distrito Nacional, Monte Plata, and Santo Domingo, for a cumulative total of 179 confirmed cases.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Although the disease maintains a presence in the territory, the indicators remain contained, while the Ministry reinforces actions of surveillance, early detection, environmental sanitation, and community education<\/strong>, especially during the rainy season.<\/p>n”\n\n“n
