Santo Domingo.\u2013<\/strong> Venezuelan leader Alejandra Macuari<\/strong> shared the pain her family is going through after losing a brother-in-law during the earthquakes that shook Venezuela. <\/p>n”\n\n“n

During a meeting with the press, Macuari revealed that his relative, a well-known pilot who resided in La Guaira state, passed away after being trapped in the rubble caused by the earthquake.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

“Yesterday we received the terrible news that my brother-in-law had passed away in La Guaira. We had spoken with him approximately an hour before it happened and subsequently we were unable to locate him until around 12 midnight, when we received the news,” he recounted.<\/p>n<\/blockquote>n”\n\n“n

The activist explained that the victim remained trapped under the rubble and that it was his own daughter who managed to rescue him after hearing his cries for help.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

“His daughter had to travel from Caracas to that town and, upon hearing her father’s cries for help, managed to pull him out. But as she placed him on the pavement, he passed away,” she narrated.<\/p>n<\/blockquote>n”\n\n“n

Macuari attributed the difficulties in the rescue efforts to the lack of preparation and equipment of emergency agencies in Venezuela.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

“What is evidenced here is the deterioration of a regime that for 27 years never invested in specializing those who really needed to be prepared. The firefighters had no way to get people out and even today they do not have the necessary equipment,” he maintained.<\/p>n<\/blockquote>n”\n\n“n

The leader described the tragedy as “a gray day<\/strong>” for her family and for thousands of Venezuelans, warning that there are still numerous people trapped under the collapsed buildings.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

“Although the authorities speak of certain figures, there are still people under the rubble. We cannot speak with accuracy when there are still people waiting to be rescued,” he stated.<\/p>n<\/blockquote>n”\n\n“n

In that sense, he made a <\/a>call for international solidarity and requested that the Dominican Government facilitate the transport of humanitarian aid that various Venezuelan organizations are collecting in the country.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

“We call on President Luis Abinader, with great humility, because we know that he has always extended a helping hand to us, to help us with the logistics so that we can send all the humanitarian aid that is being collected to our Venezuelan brothers,” he expressed.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Macuari also warned that the next 48 hours<\/strong> will be decisive for the affected areas due to the interruption of basic services.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

“There are probably more Venezuelans here who have lost family members, but everything is so recent that we still don’t have that information. As the days go by, we will learn the magnitude of the losses,” he concluded.<\/p>n”","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
