Bogot\u00e1.- <\/strong>The president-elect of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella,<\/a> announced this Tuesday the appointment of economist and conservative leader Miguel G\u00f3mez Mart\u00ednez as Minister of Finance, a position he will assume on August 7 with the start of the new government.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

In a statement, the president-elect’s team highlighted G\u00f3mez Mart\u00ednez’s career as an “economist, former deputy comptroller general of the Republic, former president of the state foreign trade bank Banc\u00f3ldex” and of Fasecolda, the guild that brings together insurers in Colombia.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

He also pointed out that G\u00f3mez Mart\u00ednez will have the mission to “restore institutional trust,” defend public resources, and “order public finances with transparency, discipline, and responsibility.”<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The statement added that the new minister represents the so-called “nevers,” a concept used by De la Espriella during the campaign to group people who, according to his movement Defenders of the Fatherland, have not been part of the traditional political establishment.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Who is Miguel G\u00f3mez Mart\u00ednez?<\/h3>n”\n\n“n

G\u00f3mez Mart\u00ednez is a figure close to Colombian conservatism and has combined his career in the public sector with positions in the private sector.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Between 2010 and 2014, he was a Representative to the Chamber for Bogot\u00e1 on the Partido de la U lists, while previously he held the position of Vice Comptroller General of the Republic, presided over Banc\u00f3ldex, and served as Colombia’s ambassador to France during the first administration of former President \u00c1lvaro Uribe (2002-2006).<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The announcement comes after De la Espriella presented the team that will lead the transition with the outgoing government and at a time when the president-elect is advancing in the formation of the cabinet that will accompany him during the beginning of the 2026-2030 term.<\/p>n”\n\n“n
