A 3-year-old boy was rescued alive from the rubble six days after the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, according to a Jordanian rescue team.<\/strong><\/p>n”\n\n“n

A video shows rescuers celebrating as the boy, identified as Klieber Mor\u00e1n by the country’s interim president, Delcy Rodr\u00edguez, is pulled from the rubble in the state of La Guaira.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Rodr\u00edguez described the child’s rescue as a moment of hope.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

This occurs while the UN warns that tens of thousands of people are in urgent need of food and shelter.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The death toll from last week’s earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, has risen to 1,943, with more than 10,000 injured and tens of thousands more missing.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

According to an initial assessment of NASA satellite data, it is estimated that the seismic movements likely damaged or destroyed 58,870 buildings.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) reported on Tuesday that food shortages were widespread, basic services had been interrupted, and communications were practically cut off in La Guaira.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

“Community tensions are rising, as access to aid remains limited,” UNHCR stated in a release published on its website.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Daniela Armas, an 18-year-old vendor from La Guaira who was injured after falling from a motorcycle during the earthquakes, told the AFP agency that some supplies were being distributed, “but sometimes people almost kill each other for food… it’s like a cockfight.”<\/p>n”\n\n“n

UNHCR indicated that it needed an initial US$15 million to “expand protection, essential items, and temporary shelter support for 30,000 people affected by the earthquake for six months”.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization stated that health services are under extreme pressure.<\/p>n”\n\n“n
