Santo Domingo<\/strong>. \u2013 The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT), Rafael Santos Bad\u00eda, led the Higher Education Forum of the National Consultation for the Future of Dominican Education, with the participation of presidents of university associations, rectors, academics, and representatives of the educational sector.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The purpose of the meeting was to foster reflection on the role of universities in building a more articulated, relevant, and prepared educational system for the challenges of the present and the future.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

During his speech, Santos Bad\u00eda stated that the Dominican Republic is going through a period of profound scientific and technological transformations that requires rethinking the educational model and strengthening the role of higher education institutions.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

\u201cWe are experiencing a profound scientific and technological transformation, and our educational system cannot remain static. Universities must become the beacon where the teachers, researchers, and professionals who will drive national development are trained,\u201d the minister stated.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The head of MESCyT maintained that higher education institutions are called upon to play a decisive role in this process, through the permanent updating of their academic offerings, the strengthening of research, innovation, and the continuous evaluation of the quality of the professionals they train.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Likewise, he raised the need to consolidate strategic alliances with internationally renowned universities, promote double degree programs, strengthen higher technical training, and plan in an articulated manner the country’s future needs in terms of teachers, researchers, doctors, and specialists.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

\u201cWe must decide together how many doctors, teachers, and professionals the nation requires. It is also necessary to promote a new training model that provides greater opportunities for young people and strengthens the capabilities of our teachers to raise the quality of education,\u201d he stated.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Santos Bad\u00eda valued the participation recorded in the regional forums of the National Consultation and highlighted that the process has allowed for the collection of contributions from teachers, students, families, local authorities, representatives of the productive sector, and social organizations from different regions of the country<\/a>.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

\u201cIn the territorial consultations, we have found extraordinary participation. In this forum, the leading role belongs to the universities, because they are the ones that must provide their vision on the future of higher education and the national educational system,\u201d he stated.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The minister explained that this space seeks to contribute to the construction of a shared vision on educational transformation, aligned with national priorities and the challenges derived from artificial intelligence, automation, innovation, and the fourth industrial revolution.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Likewise, he reported that he presented to the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, the progress achieved in the National Consultation process, highlighting the active integration of universities through their associations and representatives.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

When referring to the challenges of the educational system, Santos Bad\u00eda pointed out that the country’s great challenge is not limited to expanding coverage or increasing investment, but to guaranteeing an education of higher quality, relevance, and connection with national development needs.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

\u201cThe discussion is no longer just about access or infrastructure. Today, the main challenge is to raise the quality of the educational system and ensure that the training of our students responds to the needs of national development,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>n<\/blockquote>n”\n\n“n

The forum was attended by representatives from the Dominican Association of University Rectors (ADRU), the Dominican Association of Universities (ADOU), the Dominican Association of Catholic Universities (ADUCA), the Association of Private Universities (AUPRI), the Association of Higher Education Institutions (ASIES), and the Ibero-American University Association for Postgraduate Studies (AUIP).<\/p>n”\n\n“n

Academics, professors, authorities from MESCyT, representatives from the Ministry of Education (MINERD), and technicians from the National Institute for Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP) also attended, contributing their perspectives to the construction of a roadmap aimed at strengthening the Dominican educational system.<\/p>n”\n\n“n

The Higher Education Forum is part of the National Consultation for the Future of Dominican Education, a process promoted by the Executive Commission for Educational Transformation, created through Decree 309-26, with the purpose of gathering proposals that contribute to the construction of a comprehensive national educational system and the development of new educational legislation.<\/p>n”","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
