Despite the sentence, issued in March of this year, the officer was free and on duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a press release from the prosecuting body, the soldier was identified as <strong>Reynaldo Cordero Santana<\/strong>, a <strong>sergeant major<\/strong> in the <strong>Dominican Republic Army<\/strong> (ERD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You may be interested in:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/nacionales\/comandante-del-ejercito-realiza-recorrido-por-unidades-fronterizas-en-elias-pina-y-dajabon\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"682865\">Army Commander conducts tour of border units in El\u00edas Pi\u00f1a and Dajab\u00f3n<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cordero Santana was arrested at the headquarters of that military institution, at <strong>kilometer 25<\/strong> of the <strong>Duarte Highway<\/strong>, in the <strong>Pedro Brand<\/strong> municipality, Santo Domingo province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The capture was executed by the <strong>Fugitive, Rebel, and Convict Capture Unit<\/strong> (Ucaprec), under the direction of prosecutor <strong>Andry de los Santos<\/strong>, in compliance with arrest warrant number 249-01-2026-SAUT-00533, issued by judge <strong>Franny Ml. Gonz\u00e1lez Castillo<\/strong>, of the Sentence Execution Court of the Judicial Department of the National District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>According to the Public Prosecutor&#8217;s Office, the arrest seeks to comply with sentence number <strong>SCJ-SS-26-0368<\/strong>, which is final and irrevocable, issued on <strong>March 31, 2026<\/strong>, for the death of <strong>Michael Jorge<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As indicated in the note, the sentence was handed down by the <strong><\/strong>Second Chamber<strong> of the <\/strong>Supreme Court of Justice<strong><\/strong> of the Dominican Republic, which imposed a <strong>10-year prison sentence<\/strong> on the defendant after finding him guilty of violating articles 59, 60, 295, and 304.II of the Dominican Penal Code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The file states that <strong>Luciano Jos\u00e9 Berroa Nina<\/strong>, known as &#8220;Viejo&#8221; or &#8220;Viejebo&#8221;, acted in complicity with <strong>Sergeant Major Cordero Santana<\/strong> to kill the victim, who was on Paseo de los Arroyos street, in the Perantuen neighborhood, in the <strong>Arroyo Hondo<\/strong> sector, at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>National Institute of Forensic Sciences<\/strong> determined that Jorge&#8217;s death was caused by a <strong>firearm projectile wound<\/strong>, classifying the case as a <strong>homicide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this fact, <strong>Berroa Nina<\/strong> was also prosecuted, who last year was sentenced to serve <strong>20 years in prison<\/strong> at the <strong>Najayo Men&#8217;s Correction and Rehabilitation Center<\/strong>, in the San Crist\u00f3bal province.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry reported that it arrested a military officer sentenced to 10 years in prison for the death of a man, in an incident that occurred on September 29, 2023, in the Arroyo Hondo sector of the National District.
