{"id":512982,"date":"2026-07-02T11:13:29","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T15:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/earthquake-survivor-rescued-in-venezuela-after-eight-days-under-the-rubble\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T11:13:29","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T15:13:29","slug":"earthquake-survivor-rescued-in-venezuela-after-eight-days-under-the-rubble","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/international\/earthquake-survivor-rescued-in-venezuela-after-eight-days-under-the-rubble\/","title":{"rendered":"Earthquake survivor rescued in Venezuela after eight days under the rubble"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Catia La Mar (Venezuela).-<\/strong> A survivor of the earthquakes in <strong>Venezuela<\/strong> was rescued this Thursday morning, after spending eight days under the rubble of a building in the state of <strong>La Guaira,<\/strong> in the north of the country and adjacent to <strong>Caracas,<\/strong> and after a rescue operation lasting nearly 72 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Outside the building where <strong>Hern\u00e1n Gil<\/strong> was trapped, firefighters and journalists gathered, applauding and embracing each other at the moment the security guard emerged, who was then transported on a stretcher to an ambulance that will take him to a private clinic in Caracas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You may be interested in:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/nacionales\/nueva-acropolis-dominicana-se-suma-a-ayuda-humanitaria-para-venezuela\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"682869\">Nueva Acr\u00f3polis Dominicana joins humanitarian aid for Venezuela<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Long live Venezuela,&#8221; shouted a Chilean rescuer while carrying the man to the ambulance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rescuers gathered in front of the entrance of the severely damaged building, where they posed together holding the flags of Venezuela, Chile, and Costa Rica as a symbol of international solidarity and cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Behind them, debris, exposed columns, and part of the building&#8217;s interior could be seen, evidencing the magnitude of the damage and the challenging scenario in which they carried out the search and rescue efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gil had been trapped in the security booth in the basement of the building located in the town of Catia La Mar where he worked, following the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes on June 24th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rescue efforts formally began at 10:00 local time (14:00 GMT) on Monday, and since then, the group of about 100 rescuers, including Chileans, Americans, Portuguese, Costa Ricans, and Salvadorans, has been in constant communication with him, hydrating him and providing medication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first contact with Gil by rescue teams took place last Sunday and, since then, communication had been maintained with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The security guard was in &#8220;an underground passage in a security booth with 140 tons of rubble on top,&#8221; a spokesperson for the Costa Rican Red Cross, also involved in the rescue, told EFE, noting on Wednesday that the strategy had been rethought and that they were &#8220;looking for a new access point.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Venezuelan Red Cross volunteers, Gil was able to save his life thanks to the guard booth, which served as his protective shield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His wife, Gusbimar Gonz\u00e1lez, had been in front of the collapsed building since last Thursday, one day after the earthquakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following last week&#8217;s earthquakes, between 2,500 and 3,000 foreign rescuers have arrived in Venezuela, according to UN data, which is coordinating their activity on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today&#8217;s would be the 13th rescue of someone alive since these international rescue groups began operations a week ago in Venezuela, according to UN data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In its latest balance from the eve, the Venezuelan Executive indicated that at least 2,295 died, while 11,267 were injured. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Catia La Mar (Venezuela).- A survivor of the earthquakes in Venezuela was rescued this Thursday morning, after spending eight days under the rubble of a building in the state of La Guaira, in the north of the country and adjacent to Caracas, and after a rescue operation lasting nearly 72 hours.
